Services: Implants

Dr Martyn Cox splits his time placing Implants between England and Wales and has degrees in Cell Biology, Immunology, Molecular Oncology, Dental Surgery and post graduate qualifications in Oral surgery and Implantology.

Martyn has been awarded numerous research prizes in the UK and has published over 40 papers in both UK and international peer reviewed journals including several oral cancer textbooks. He has lectured on oral cancer, human papilloma virus genetics and Implantology both in the UK, Europe and the USA.

Over the past 30 years Martyn has developed a specialist interest in the field of Implantology and Oral surgery with a detailed knowledge and experience in CT guided implantology. He has placed and restored over 6000 implants dental implants during this time with an audited 99% success rate. He is trained in, and teaches other clinicians, advanced dental implant techniques including guided bone regeneration, Osseodensification and sinus lift techniques.

Dr Martyn Cox believes strongly in developing a personal relationship with his patients and, since all Implant treatments are carried out in house, his patients receive co-ordinated, logical dental implant treatments resulting in long lasting, safe treatment options. His experience both clinically and academically afford his patients the knowledge that they are in very capable hands.

I qualified in 1996 from Cardiff BDS with Honours. I worked at the Dental hospital as an Oral Surgery House Officer and then had a year in practice as a Vocational Trainee in Whitchurch. I then held posts in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend and at Morriston Hospital.

I achieved my Fellowship in Dental Surgery at Edinburgh in 1999. I studied Medicine from 1999 to 2003 (hons). During Medical School, I worked in GD Practice in Bridgend along with locum work at SHO and registrar level throughout many South Wales hospitals. I continued working in practice for my medical pre-registration year and whilst on a Surgical Rotation but left Medicine to start a family in 2006 and have worked in practice ever since. At the practice I am the educational supervisor for our foundation dentist. I enjoy all aspects of dentistry and have a special interest in facial aesthetics.

Since 2016, I have acted as a dentist with a special interest in Oral Surgery for Cwm Taf LHB. Practitioners refer extractions to us at Cefn Coed where the cases are assessed to see if they are suitable for Primary Care under LA. I am happy to see failed extractions, extractions of special difficulty such as wisdom teeth or to assess those with complex medical histories. I enjoy treating anxious patients and take pride in making an appointment with us into a positive experience. If referrals can be made with a diagnostic quality radiograph, either an IOPA showing the apices or an OPT

David is born and raised in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. He firstly completed a biomedical science degree at Cardiff University in 2011, and then returned to Cardiff Dental school to study dentistry, graduating in 2017. After qualifying he spent 4 years in general practice in Merthyr Tydfil enjoying all aspects of dentistry. He also completed a certificate in restorative dentistry, which lead him to develop a special interest in periodontology. David completed his masters degree in 2022 in periodontology and continues to develop skills through postgraduate courses in periodontology, prosthodontics and oral surgery. Outside of dentistry he enjoys most sports, but has a particular passion for rugby. After retiring from playing rugby himself in 2014, his attention turned to coaching, and he is currently the head coach of his local youth rugby side.

Emily qualified from Cardiff University Dental School in 2017, completing her foundation training in practice and went to Cardiff Dental Hospital to work in Paediatric, Restorative and Oral Surgery. Emily has been involved in treatment planning and provision of interesting and complex dental cases, gaining experience in inhalation sedation and surgical extractions and leading emergency dental clinics whilst supervising and teaching undergraduate dental students.

Emily has trained in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department in the Royal Gwent Hospital providing emergency on-call care and managing acute dental problems where she diagnosed, investigated and treated a variety of oral medicine conditions, including completing venepuncture and biopsies. Also, she was involved in major theatre operations.

Emily has completed a masterclass in composite bonding. She has a special interest in dental extractions and accepts referrals from other dental practitioners for complex/failed extractions and the removal of wisdom teeth. She prides herself on having a calm and kind manner and providing the best possible care for all patients. Her next goal is to begin training in Implant Surgery.

Ed qualified from Cardiff University Dental School in 2001 graduating with Merit. After graduating Ed worked in general practice providing NHS and private care in South Wales, Guernsey and Devon.

Ed is committed to practicing quality dentistry and has developed a particular interest in endodontics (root fillings). Ed is currently studying a Masters degree in Endodontology with SimplyEndo and Chester University. Ed is always in pursuit of the latest in techniques in order to maintain the highest standards of care.

Outside of dentistry Ed enjoys keeping fit and visiting the coast.

I graduated from Bristol university in 2017 and have worked at Cefn Coed Dental Practice since 2018. I enjoy and offer all aspects of general dentistry and I am also the c-fast provider here at Cefn Coed Dental Practice. Through cfast I offer both fixed braces and clear aligners to straighten misaligned teeth, giving the patient the options to choose what is best for them. I also enjoy enhancing people's natural smiles with composite bonding. Outside of work, I'm a keen foodie and enjoy tennis and travelling.
